Where were you when the ground shook? Buildings swaying, ground shaking , and the earth moving are things people on the east coast are not accustomed to. However today, Tuesday August 23, 2011 in the early afternoon a tremor went through Bed Stuy Brooklyn. It was actually an aftershock wave from an 5.8 earthquake with the epicenter in Virginia. Nearly 500 miles away, the ground shook as residents of Bed Stuy took to the streets bewildered on a beautiful summer day.
One woman was observed praying in the street. With the 10th anniversary of the tragic terrorists events of September 11th nearing, some were quick to think this was another attack.
Earthquakes are rare and unusual on the east coast.
Where were you when the earth shook?

When the earth shook I was home working. I remember looking at the time. It was 3:11 pm. This is the second tremor I have experience in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. The first one was one night aroung mid-night in the fall of 2000. Feeling the ground tremor is one of those life experiences you never forget.
